QLS has a full-time permanent opportunity for a Trust Account Investigator to join the Trust Account Investigations team. The purpose of the Trust Account Investigations business unit is to ensure the Society discharges its obligations under the Legal Profession Act 2007, including the conduct of trust account investigations and the review of external examination reports.
In this role you will:
- Investigate the affairs of law practices for the purpose of determining whether law practices have complied with the legislative requirements of the Legal Profession Act 2007 and Legal Profession Regulation 2017
- Prepare reports regarding non-compliance with legislative requirements and suspected improper applications of trust money
- Educate the profession about legislative trust accounting requirements and good trust accounting practices
- Respond to queries from law practices regarding legislative requirements
Ideally you will have the following:
- Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Business or equivalent which provides immediate eligibility for CPA or ICAA certification with previous experience as an investigator/compliance officer for a period of 2 years or more
- Ability to interpret and apply the provisions of the Legal Profession Act 2007 and the Legal Profession Regulation 2007 and other legislation applicable to the operations of law practices
- Ability to examine legal accounting records and client files to ascertain whether client funds have been properly dealt with
- Ability to collect, analyse and evaluate evidential information
