QLS has a flexible 12-month opportunity for a Senior Policy Solicitor to join their Legal Policy team, working a 6-day fortnight. The Legal Policy team advocates for good law and supports good lawyers by working with policy committees and government stakeholders to represent the Queensland legal profession on key law reform issues.
The Senior Policy Solicitor advocates for good law by leading complex legal policy work and engaging with specialist committees and key stakeholders on law reform matters relevant to the Queensland legal profession and community.
This role provides expert legal analysis, research and advocacy to develop policy positions, submissions and education materials that influence law reform outcomes.
In this role you will:
- Advocate on current law reform issues, including reviewing bills, consultation papers and related materials to identify significant legal issues.
- Draft complex and technical legal policy submissions and prepare whole‑of‑Society advocacy positions.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with policy committees, stakeholders and government representatives.
- Conduct high‑level legal research to brief Council, committees and senior leaders on law reform matters.
- Develop policy positions, education and guidance materials to inform members of law reform impacts.
Ideally you will have the following:
- Law degree with eligibility for admission to practice in Queensland.
- Six (6) or more years’ post‑admission legal practice experience across a range of legal specialities.
- Strong legal analysis and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to develop practical solutions to complex reform issues.
- High‑level written and oral communication skills, including the ability to present persuasive legal arguments.
- Demonstrated ability to build effective relationships and manage competing views in a professional environment.
