QLS has a permanent full-time opportunity for an Admissions Compliance Officer to join the Legal Practitioners Admissions Board team. The QLS provides secretariat support to the Legal Practitioners Admissions Board whose role, amongst other things, is to make recommendations to the Supreme Court in relation to the eligibility and suitability of applicants seeking admission. In providing support to the Board, QLS staff provide administrative and legal assistance, including speaking in court on behalf of the Board.
The Admissions Compliance Officer supports the Secretary and Board by reviewing and processing admission applications, advising applicants and the Board, preparing submissions and policy documents, and assisting with court appearances and administrative tasks.
In this role you will:
- Review admission applications including complex applications, and give advice and recommendations.
- Support applicants through the admission process, especially those with complex cases.
- Write submissions and represent the Board in court when needed.
- Work with the Secretary to update policies, procedures, and applicant information.
- Help prepare Board materials, brief legal counsel, and keep accurate records.
Ideally you will have the following:
- Qualified and admitted as a lawyer in Queensland (essential).
- Strong research skills, and able to understand laws and explain complex issues clearly.
- Great communication and be able to work well with different stakeholders.
- Can handle tight deadlines and a heavy workload with strong attention to detail.
- Confident using Microsoft Office and record management systems.
