QLS has a permanent opportunity for a Senior Solicitor to join their Ethics and Practice Centre team. The Ethics and Practice Centre promotes honesty, integrity and professional independence by being the primary resource for ethical guidance and practice support to the Queensland legal profession. The team provides confidential advice, practical resources and tailored education to assist practitioners and firms to uphold high professional standards and navigate complex ethical and practice management issues.
As a Senior Solicitor, you will provide confidential and complex ethical and practice management advisory services to practitioners and contribute to the development of research, education and professional standards in legal ethics across Queensland.
In this role you will:
- Provide confidential and competent ethical and practice management guidance and support to practitioners, their staff and legal firms in order to assist in establishing ethical awareness and resolving such dilemmas.
- Identify and analyse significant or emerging ethical issues impacting the profession and consult with consult with relevant internal and external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies and professional committees.
- Conduct detailed research and develop high-quality guidance notes, commentary, templates and other professional resources for publication.
- Develop and deliver engaging education sessions, including bespoke ethics and practice management presentations for firms and professional audiences.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to promote professional excellence and strengthen ethical standards across the Queensland legal profession.
Ideally you will have the following:
- Significant post-admission legal experience, ideally gained at a senior solicitor or equivalent level (experience broadly commensurate with approximately 8+ years PAE will be highly regarded).
- Strong experience within sole, micro, small or medium Queensland law practices, with a deep understanding of common operational and ethical challenges.
- High-level knowledge of practice areas commonly encountered by the profession (including conveyancing, family law, succession/estate, commercial matters and litigation) and relevant legislative frameworks.
- Experience in law firm practice management, including risk management, client service, law practice structures and business or financial planning.
- Exceptional research, written and oral communication skills, with demonstrated ability to prepare professional publications and deliver education to senior legal audiences.
