QLS has a full-time, 6-month contract opportunity for a Senior Legal Counsel to join their Office of General Counsel. The main purpose of the Office of General Counsel is to provide independent legal advice to the Chief Executive Officer, the President, the Council and its committees, the Legal Practitioners Board (the Board), the Society's incorporated legal practice and the Society's officers.
In this role you will:
- Research and give written and oral legal advice.
- Manage the Society's exposure to risk by reviewing, negotiating and advising on contracts and commercial activities.
- Write statements of reasons for administrative decisions.
- Write and update policies, procedures and guidelines.
- Process applications to access information.
- Prepare submissions to decision-makers, government and other relevant entities.
Ideally you will have the following:
- A bachelor's degree in law or admissions as an Australian lawyer and eligibility to hold an unrestricted Queensland practising certificate.
- Strong critical and strategic legal analysis and research skills with demonstrated ability to produce practical solutions to complex issues.
- Minimum of 7+ years PAE, with (desirably) 4 years' experience in private practice corporate/commercial litigation.
- Prior in-house experience and administrative experience will be highly regarded.
- Knowledge of government structures and processes will also be highly regarded.
